Lester Joseph Gillis was born December 6th, 1908. He was known under the pseudonym "George Nelson", or better known simply as "Baby Face Nelson" due to his youthful appearance and small stature. Nelson criminal carrier started young, on July 4th, 1921, at the age of twelve, Nelson was arrested for shooting another 12 year old boy in the jaw with a pistol he had found in the street. He was sent away for one year to the state reformatory. At 13, he was picked up yet again, this time for joyriding in a stolen car, for this, he was given 18 months in the state's penal school for young offenders.  In 1928, Nelson was working at a standard oil station that was a front for teenage tire thieves. After falling in with the group, Nelson started rubbing elbows with many local criminals and it was here he was given his first "organized crime" job by driving bootleg booze throughout the suburbs of chicago.  On January 6th, 1930, Nelson graduated to armed robbery when he and his pals invaded the home of Charles M. Richter and made off with $25,000.00 worth of jewelry. Two months later, Nelson repeated his home invasion style robbery on the home of Lottie Brenner Von Beulow taking with them $50,000.00 worth of jewels.  On April 21st, 1930, Nelson robbed his first bank, making off with $4,000.00 in cash. Again on October 3rd, he hit another IL based bank, making off with $4,600.00. Baby Face Nelson did not have the "Robin Hood" appeal of other gangsters of his era. He had a hatred for police officers and Federal agents. He carried a list of know federal license plate numbers that he would actively hunt for at every opportunity he had.  It was this hobby of his that would ultimately lead to his death.

The Battle of Barrington

On November 27th, 1934, Nelson, along with his wife, and fellow gang member John Paul Chase were driving down a road when they spotted a car being driven in the opposite direction by FBI agents Thomas McDade and William Ryan. The agents and the outlaws noticed each other simultaneously and after a few quick turns, Nelson was chasing after the feds and the gunfire had started. Both Nelson and Chase fired at the car McDade and Ryan were driving in. Nelson's 1928 Thompson had made quick work of severely damaging the Feds' car, with both the back and front windshields blown out, McDade barely missed a head on collision with a milk truck and ended up veering off the road and wound up in an empty field.  McDade and Ryan quickly jumped out of their disabled car and took cover expecting a hail of gunfire at any moment from the pursuing gangsters. Unknown to the agents, one of the bullets fired by Ryan had punctured the radiator on Nelson's Ford V8. To make matters worse, by chance, a Hudson carrying two more federal agents, Herman Hollis and Sam Cowley, was now chasing after Nelson in his wounded Ford. Nelson's vehicle, quickly loosing power, lured the agent's Hudson alongside his Ford. Nelson, without warning, turned into the entrance of Barrington's North park and slammed to a halt between three filling stations. The agents had overshot Nelson's stop by over a 100 feet, their Hudson slamming on the brakes and coming to a stop at an angle from Nelson's Ford. Both the agents took cover on the opposite side of their Hudson while Nelson and Chase fired on the car. Nelson, armed with a .351 rifle, was firing it so quickly that bystanders later reported that they thought he was carrying a machine gun. Nelson was mortally wounded in the side, almost knowing it was a fatal wound, he stood up and shouted "I'm gonna kill you sons of bitches!" and started walking towards the agents' car. Cowley was the first to flee, attempting to fall back to a ditch on the opposite side of the road for cover.  He turned to fire on Nelson only to hear the "Click" of an empty magazine in his Thompson. Nelson shot Cowley multiple times in the head and the agent fell dead in the street.  Hollis then fired a shotgun blast at Nelson, hitting him in the legs.  Hollis, thinking Nelson was down, made his move. Nelson however, got back on his feet and when Hollis tried to fire back with his shotgun, it jammed. Throwing it to the ground, Hollis managed to pull his semi-auto .45 from it's holster but it was too late. Nelson fired and Hollis fell, it's reported that at this time, Nelson walked over to Hollis' body and pumped another 7 rounds into him from a modified fully-automatic Colt 1911 he carried. Nelson got into the agents bullet-ridden Hudson and drove off with Chase and his wife, his last words to her were, "I'm done for." Nelson died later that night at 7:35pm, and he was dumped in a ditch by his wife. She had wrapped his body in a blanket as said by her, "He always hated to be cold".

Today, we take you back to the 1930's, to recreate Nelson's crime spree and the infamous gun battle that ended his life. Today the game is two fold, before lunch you will be either robbing or protecting multiple banks/store/house. After lunch, take part in the massive manhunt for America's Public Enemy #1

The TOD
Here at Midwest Airsoft Guerrillas we believe forward progression is key in the sport of airsoft for all of our participants. With that in mind at every event we will be introducing a simple yet very effective, Tactic Of the Day. The TOD will be a demonstrated by the staff at MAG during the safety briefing but it is up to the player to implement it on the field. The TOD will always have some application towards the game for that day, we will make it something you can practice throughout the day and hopefully it will make the game more enjoyable for you as the player. You learned stuff too!

Tactic of the day: Battle of Barrington

Battle Buddies:
Today we want to stress the importance of the battle buddy system. In today's game you and your battle buddy can take advantage of the wounded player carry rule, you can also practice cover and bounding techniques, and simple hand signals, all of which will be covered in our TOD briefing during our pre game announcements. Whenever you play it's always a good idea to have somebody with you, it make the game more enjoyable and being sometimes we can get separated away from the action on larger fields, it's a good to have someone close by in case of an emergency. At least this way if you do get lost you will have someone to talk to while the rest of us come and find you. Wink

Basic Field Rules
1. FULL SEAL GOGGLES ONLY:
While this generally constitutes goggles, shooting glasses-style protection may also be worn as long as it creates a full seal around the eyes. An elastic band or other type of strap for keeping the face protection securely sealed is required at all times. Mesh Goggles, regular shooting glasses, eye/seeing glasses, USGI sun/wind/dust goggles do not meet our requirements. No exceptions. Eye protection must conform to ANSI Z87.1 compliance or better.

2. ANY PLAYER UNDER THE AGE OF 18 MUST HAVE FULL FACE PROTECTION:
This includes paintball/airsoft masks only. This rule does not include those players over the age of 18 but it is recommended that ALL players follow a full face protection guideline.

3. THE SAFEZONE:
The Safe Zone is exactly that, a safe zone that is not in play on the field.† While in the safe zone the players may remove their goggles, rest, perform any needed repairs or address any other issues at hand, etc.† At no time is firing your airsoft weapon in, at, or out of the safe zone acceptable.† This includes test firing or dry firing your weapon.† If you must do so, you may go to the designated firing line at the field to perform these functions.† Any player caught firing into the safe zone from the field of play will be ejected from the field without refund.

4. ACTING IN AN UNSAFE MANNER:
This includes physical contact, threatening others, using non-approved explosives, combustables, etc.† We do not tolerate an unsafe environment, and we are all adults.† If you are unsure what this rule covers, just remember that anything that may compromise player safety while on our field is unacceptable.

5. ALL "CLASSIC" GAS AIRSOFT GUNS MUST HAVE A TOURNAMENT LOCK:
Due to the ability that classic type airsoft guns can adjust their velocity on the fly, all "classic" airsoft guns (brands like JAC, Asahi, Kokusai, etc) must have a NPPL certified paintball Tournament Lock affixed to their external pressure regulator.† A quick google search on Paintball tournament locks will further clarify this issue.† Also, all "classic" gas airsoft guns are subject to random chronograph checks throughout the day.

QUESTIONS OR PROBLEMS ABOUT THE FIELD OR RULES MAY BE DIRECTED TO BREECH ONLY

During the course of some events, certain pyrotechnics may be used or allowed at the field.† †This covers mostly smoke type pyrotechnics.† Please check with the individual event requirements or game day rules for further details on what type of smoke pyrotechnics will be used/allowed.
